#LALA IN #SMC

Recently, Kemi "Lala" Akindoju the Nigerian actor, producer, casting director and CEO of the Make-it-Happen-Productions and the Open Mic Theatre, and an alumnus of (then Pan-African University) Pan-Atlantic University, visited and chatted with the Full-Time Masters class, FT9.
According to Lala, the term 'actor' is deliberate because she's not limited to female roles as a professional.
She is also a popular cinema and theatre face with awards credited to her.

The chat centred on her professional life especially after bagging a masters in Media and Communications from #SMC. All aspects of the chat were quite insightful. Some of the tips weren't new, but they are nuggets she lives by and hopes would inspire others to be the best as professionals. Feel to add yours as comments.

  1. Have the end in mind
  2. Do research on where to work
  3. There is no shame in honesty
  4. Go after what you want, use the name of the school
  5. Chances are taken not given
  6. The relationships we build here (in #PAU, #SMC) matter
  7. Education is not just academics
  8. Do free work but get your credit and make noise about it
  9. Do a list of people to work with
  10. Agenda Setting,  make it work for you
  11. Use your work to make your noise
  12. Money is great,  influence is better
  13. Dream big
  14. Put yourself somewhere (when helping others in their projects),  you need the visibility
  15. Nothing is a fluke especially in the media
  16. Don't be high on your creativity, be business conscious
  17. Dress up in the preferred role always, you are constantly being auditioned
  18. Choose mentors strategically
  19. Attend Industry events
  20. Don't ask people for their numbers,  ask them how they want to be contacted
At the end of the chat, FT9 presented a framed photograph of Lala and the class (snapped an hour before). She was pleasantly surprised and we were indeed honoured to learn from her.

Many thanks Lala, keep being awesome.

Yours truly,
Beryl
