WHO SEND YOU?

It's been a matter of concern seeing several people in FT9 falling in and out of downtimes, with complains of headaches, backaches, time-aches, grammar-ache, turnitin-ache, facilitator-ache, course-ache, score-ache, tuition-ache etc. Some have adopted 'interesting' stress relief methods including jugging, movies, dancing, hangouts etc ; while others have increased consumption of items including coffee. lollipop, plantain chips, Ribena, Menthos. However, what is more intriguing in my observation, are the intrapersonal and interpersonal questions that have been recurrent in the course of this program.

Some of the questions come as rhetorical questions during introspection, some during conversations with classmates , family folk, friends etc. The list of questions on the minds of many Ft9ers, in the face of the 'overwhelming' pressure, faculty expectations, SMC timing, assignments, presentations, tests, dis-satisfactory scores, seminars etc, include:

  • what am i doing here?
  • why did i choose this stream?
  • can i drop this ethics or some core courses? Is my IQ still intact?
  • What has graphics got to do with my stream?
  • Am i meant to be here? What's wrong with me?
  • what am i going to leave PAU with?
  • why are others getting it and i'm not?
  • what's the point of all this stress if i can't get an A?
  • Should i have waited another year?
  • why didn't i listen to my dad/husband?
  • when will this end? what's the future after PAU?
  • what is the meaning of this?
  • what does she (lecturer) really want from us?
  • is this what i paid over N2 million for?
  • who send me? πŸ™Ž

Hmmm... FT8 tried to tell us what to expect, but we didn't get it.πŸ˜• One FT9ner recounted how he anticipated doing a Masters but didn't imagine the magnitude of stress he's encountering. The funny thing is that lecturers say it's a normal phenomenon,😱 citing how it's tougher out there, so this is prep😲 . Sometimes it feels really crazy, but hey! don't give up!
'Who send you? πŸ˜›You sent yourself!' 😝 . You could have attended any school in Africa, but you choose here. Think of the values or attributes that attracted you to this institution.  Right down the objectives you had in mind before for embarking on the MSc in the School of Media & Communication, Pan Atlantic University. Place them by your reading table so you'd visualise the big picture as you study. This program is a means to an end, your 'Eudaemonia'.πŸ˜€

I remember my chat over lunch with the Vice Chancellor of the school, Prof. Juan Manuel Elegido. He asked how the program was going and if it is value for money. I nodded in affirmation because this program has exposed our ignorance, humbled some, made many to unlearn, learn and re-learn. We are metamorphosing daily and will transform this world, leaving it better than we met and profiting thereby. This program is a means to an end, find your 'Eudaemonia' and focus on it. Afterall, who send you!πŸ˜‰

Share your random questions as comments or words that have encouraged you or any thing that has kept you going so far. It's been really intriguing and i'm super glad to be in the FT9 family.

Love you guys.πŸ˜™

Yours truly,
